Let's assume you're buying Cupper's freshly roasted coffee, which means you're getting the best beans at the best roast... then the next most important thing is THE GRIND:
USE A BURR GRINDER.
Don't use a blade grinder. Burrs "crush" the coffee while blades "slice" the coffee, and this makes a YUGE difference in the flavour extraction.
A sliced coffee particle will infuse your coffee with far less flavour than a crushed coffee particle.
We recommend the Bodum Bistro Grinders, which are one of the best entry-level burr grinders available.
Blade grinders like the
one above will give you a weak, less flavourful coffee.
CHOOSE THE RIGHT GRIND.
Your coffee grinder will have a variety of settings for you to choose from. Experimenting is half the fun! One thing is for sure: when you land on the perfect grind setting, you'll know it because your coffee will be so much more flavourful.
KEEP YOUR GRINDER CLEAN.
Coffee is a food product, and like any other food-processing equipment, your coffee grinder should be regularly cleaned. The Bodum Bistro grinders are easy to clean: take the top off, brush/vacuum out the inside, and run the top through the dishwasher. Done.
