Do you drink K-Kup coffee?
The "big machine" - huge coffee conglomerates - have done a great job of marketing the single-serve machines and the coffee that goes with them. How much truth is in that advertising?
Let's do some myth-busting.
MYTH #1. K-Kup coffee is cheaper than freshly roasted coffee.
Not so! We did a cost-breakdown, comparing our specialty coffee with the typical K-Kup coffee you can purchase at Costco. The K-Kups are .66/cup, while Cupper's premium, organic, freshly roasted coffee is only .58/cup! You could be drinking twice the coffee for less money per cup. Win Win.
MYTH #2. K-Kup coffee is coffee.
Only in the loosest definition of the word. Freeze-dried, spray-dried, and boosted with chemicals. They kind of HAVE to do it that way, because of the brewing process. See Myth #3.
MYTH #3: Your coffee is brewed.
Not so much. There is no "brewing" as we know it. The water is no where near the temperature required to extract flavour, and it's pushed through the coffee much too quickly. You're not getting any flavour, which is why they freeze-dry and add chemicals. See Myth #2.
MYTH #4: Single-serve coffee is more convenient.
Really? This is the huge selling point that the big coffee companies push, and we just don't agree. The time it would take to properly brew yourself an excellent cup of coffee (we have many brewing systems that can do just one cup) is the same amount of time it takes to wash your fruit, dress your salad, or toast your bread. For that tiny bit of extra time, you get so much better coffee!
