The Compass Mexican Hot Chocolate Bar begins with sweet, rich 53% milk chocolate. In Mesoamerican civilizations cacao used in various ceremonies was highly valued. Arriving Europeans added milk and sugar to the bitter frothy drink known as “xocoatl”. This started the sweet, spicy beverage we know and love today. This bar features cinnamon and cayenne pepper, sharing the rich heritage of true Mexican hot chocolate.

Compass Chocolates is a true bean-to-bar chocolatier located in St. Albert, Alberta. “Bean-to-bar” means the cacao beans are purchased directly. As a result, Compass manages all aspects of the chocolate they produce, unlike most chocolate companies. In addition, Compass is a women-owned and operated business. Started in 2020 by Priya Winsor, the company focuses on flavour, quality, diversity, and community. This strong emphasis on quality shows in all aspects of their amazing confections. First, they start with direct trade cacao grown ethically and sustainably. Next they pick the freshest local ingredients, each chosen to enhance the unique flavours in their chocolate. Presentation is important too – Every chocolate is beautifully hand-crafted and tempts you try a flavour combo you’d never imagined.
