University of Lethbridge iGem Medium Roast Coffee 🍁

The University of Lethbridge iGEM team sells Medium Roast Coffee to raise funds for their travel to competition. This coffee is medium-bodied, well-balanced, and fresh roasted daily at Cupper’s. Each cup delivers notes of chocolate, cashew, pecan, and honey. From every bag sold, $5 supports the iGEM team’s travel and competition expenses.

The University of Lethbridge iGEM team advances synthetic biology through education and global competition. They promote open, collaborative, and cooperative solutions for a healthier and more sustainable world. This year, the team aims to engineer safe E. coli to produce hyaluronic acid (HA) efficiently. HA appears in skincare, cosmetic treatments like Botox, and various medical applications. Though the body produces HA naturally, commercial HA often comes from animal sources which raises ethical and scalability concerns. The team is developing an ethical, animal-free HA production method using engineered E. coli. Their method promises a more sustainable, efficient, and scalable way to produce high-quality HA.

In October 2025, the team will travel to Paris for the iGEM Grand Jamboree. They will compete against over 400 international teams, representing the University of Lethbridge.
